Loren's Blog #2

Amazing how time has flown past since my first entry, and yet I feel more and more pressed for time to accomplish all we must before we "officially" open our showroom doors in Tucson, which I intend to happen on Monday, July 14th.

Fortunately, I have been blessed with the help of some great people (Richard Ward, Jason Terpstra, Dan Ellis) so that we can start bringing the truth, beauty, passion , pleasure and power of music to people throughout the United States and North America.

Does the world really need "another" speaker company?  Decidedly not!  However, perhaps a different question should be asked:  Does the world need a speaker company unlike other speaker companies, producing a speaker unlike other speakers, one which truly reveals the full spectrum of musical dynamics from the smallest speaker model to the largest ground-pounder?

Ask this question and I must answer it in the Affirmative.  Yes!  Yes, the world does really need -- not just "another" speaker company, but one which builds speakers that are at the leading edge of revealing the beauty of music to a waiting world.

But back to our "showroom" which really started off as a showcase for the entire line of Mark & Daniel speakers.  We were fortunate to find an ideal location at Santa Fe Square, an upscale center whose anchor store is the Mark Sublette Art Gallery in Tucson, Arizona.  Although we initially leased Suite 5, through a fortunate quirk (our next door neighbor wanted the space) we were able to negotiate a lease for Suite 6 (much larger) for the same price.

This provides us with a large space for showing the complete line of Mark & Daniel speakers as well as setting up a separate 5.1 channel A/V system utilizing our new Muse monitors.

If you ever visit our showroom in Tucson (and we invite everyone from around the world to do so) you will find a listening room unlike any  other you are likely to find anywhere else.

The decor is a blend of American Western and ancient Chinese -- the color palette used, the furniture, the lamps, the photographs, the artwork -- a strange yet compelling combination of the America South West and China meeting headlong in Tucson, Arizona.  Talk about multi-cultural!

Moreover, our showroom is for your enjoyment!  You can come on in and "set a spell." Bring your CDs.... have some espresso, a cappuccino, a coffee or some soft  drinks.  We want you to really relax and enjoy being here because if you are passionate about your music, then you are among friends at the Mark & Daniel showrooms.

Nevertheless, it has not been easy getting this place "together."  Although the vision for our showroom was settled before we began cleaning, painting and decorating, the first paint company we hired had a peculiar way of translating this vision onto the walls of our showroom.

I originally envisioned a rich, faux texture to mirror and enhance the rustic Saltillo tile floors of the showroom.  Unfortunately, the first painter and his crew left out the "a" in faux, and the end result pleased no one.  The best way to describe it would be to imagine a wolverine let loose upon bare walls with his claws dripping with multicolored paint.  Not pretty!

Fortunately, through a mutual friend, we found another painter who perfectly understood our vision, and translated it into a reality by covering over and completely repainting the entire show room.  Now it looks incredible -- just the way I had originally imagined it should look.  (Hopefully the photos I've attached to this blog will illustrate the difference between  a "fux"-ed paint job and a "faux" finish...).

Now we can start adding furniture, rugs, graphic art, floor lamps, etc.  We want to create a second home for audiophiles, where you can feel completely comfortable to stop, sit, brows, drink some java and, if  you wish, acquire a pair of possibly the most advanced speakers on the planet.

We all hope you will stop in and "set a spell."  We all look forward to your visit here...

Best wishes,

Loren Charles
